Behind Glass

Posted in art, Art Gallery by swojdylak on April 1, 2010

This April, my “chairrareum” window installation is part of the Unblurred event during the Geek Arts/Green Innovators (GA/GI) festival.  Lisa Toboz was fantastic enough to take these amazing photos and wrote about her obsession with them.

Table & Spoon also has included some great photos of these in their GA/GI roundup!

Each of them (except one) are live moss, dirt and some seeds, and each contains a small, white, handmade chair.  I’m excited to see how they evolve over the month.  Naturally I have my own ideas behind their creation, but I’d love to hear what people think they are about.

I love the little chairs. You’re now officially the Andy Warhol of little chairs with little grass. But seriously, I think this is great. And i know how making all of them must have made you giggle, and that makes me happy.

Thanks, I’m glad you like them! Ha! There was certainly a “factory” in the creation of the little chairs with little grass.

Marvelous! I’ll have to go see it in person now. I promise not to unleash the ghost of Chewie on all of them.

There was a tiny little man telling me a tiny little story in a tiny little chair. He had to leave for a moment, but he hasn’t been back yet…

Amazing. Never have I been so proud to eat so many pickles. I can’t wit to see them in person.

Also, I think that each little jar represents someone’s “happy place”. Their little white chair in the middle of nowhere, completely isolated, but more like other people than they think.

I’ve never been more proud of someone for eating so many pickles! Thank you!
I’m glad you see a positive in the sameness/isolation/nowhereness – that was totally my intention

“Looks like something that would be on the cover of an album.
Indeed, that [tiny chairs] would be a good album name.”
